The last opportunity to earn big Championship Points toward qualification for the 2019 Pokémon World Championships is on the line as players compete in the season’s final International Championships in Columbus, Ohio, from Friday, June 21, through Sunday, June 23, 2019.
You can watch all the action from home even if you can’t make it to historic Columbus, as we’ll be broadcasting matches from each round of the 2019 Pokémon North America International Championships. Matches from the Pokémon Trading Card Game and Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon Video Game Championships (VGC) will be on display all weekend long starting Friday morning, and Pokkén Tournament DX will join the fray for the competition’s final two days.
Feature matches from the Pokémon TCG and VGC will be broadcast Friday and Saturday on Twitch.tv/Pokemon, and you’ll be able to catch another match from each round of each tournament on Twitch.tv/PokemonTCG and Twitch.tv/PokemonVGC. The action in the Pokkén Tournament DX tournament will kick off on Twitch.tv/PokkenTournament at 9:15 a.m. EDT Saturday.
The final rounds for the Pokémon TCG and VGC will be broadcast consecutively on Twitch.tv/Pokemon on Sunday starting at 10 a.m. EDT, while the Pokkén Tournament DX finals will be broadcast on Twitch.tv/PokkenTournament at 9:15 a.m. EDT. Don’t forget to check out the winning teams and decks at Pokemon.co.uk/EventResults once the tournament is complete.

Decks featuring Lighting-type Pokémon like Zapdos and Pikachu & Zekrom-GX dominated the spotlight at our last two International Championships in Europe and Oceania, but there are plenty of new challengers this time with the release of Sun & Moon—Unbroken Bonds. Excitement around Reshiram & Charizard-GX has built to a fever pitch, but don’t expect decks built around it to be the only impact of the latest Pokémon TCG expansion—Weezing, Lucario & Melmetal-GX, and Persian-GX have all already proven part of formidable decks at recent Regional Championships.

Expect to see Trainers bring polished strategies to Columbus for the second International Championships featuring the high-powered Ultra Series format. Ultra Necrozma received the most attention as players prepared for a format with almost no restrictions, but in the end it was the combination of Xerneas and Rayquaza—a pair that didn’t have much success together the last time the most powerful Legendary Pokémon were permitted in 2016—that came out on top in Berlin. No pairing of Legendary Pokémon has proven that it has a definitive leg up in the Ultra Series, so we’re likely to see a variety of strategies competing for dominance throughout the tournament.

The tournaments in Columbus will be the final opportunity for competitors to qualify for the 2019 Pokkén Tournament World Championships before the action moves on to the big stage in Washington, DC, in August. The shift to the Team Battle format, where each player chooses their own team of three Battle Pokémon instead of just one, has led to some incredible matches featuring a mix of old favorites and Pokémon that were previously overlooked. The excitement on the Pokkén Tournament stage is always unparalleled thanks to its enthusiastic fans, so make sure to tune in—this is an event you won’t want to miss!
