As anticipation grows for Pokémon GO Fest 2020, we begin the second GO Fest weekly challenge. In addition to this new battle-themed Timed Research, you’ll also face off against Team GO Rocket in their own challenge. Hopefully you and your Pokémon team are up to the task! These new challenges will take place from Friday, July 10, 2020, at 8:00 a.m. to Wednesday, July 15, 2020, at 10:00 p.m. local time.
GO Fest Weekly Challenge: Battle
Test your battle skills by completing all three sets of tasks in the GO Fest Weekly Challenge: Battle Timed Research. Doing so will earn you an encounter with Hitmonlee, an encounter with Absol, an Elite TM, and a Super Rocket Radar, which will allow you to encounter Giovanni.
If the following numbers of Trainers from the same team complete this Timed Research, certain Pokémon will appear during Pokémon GO Fest 2020:
One million Team Instinct Trainers — Ferroseed
One million Team Mystic Trainers — Alolan Grimer
One million Team Valor Trainers — Alolan Marowak
Plus, if you complete the GO Fest Weekly Challenge: Battle Timed Research, you’ll earn access to the GO Fest Elite Battle Challenge. This is a set of difficult tasks that you can complete for personal bragging rights. Be aware that you don’t need to complete these tasks for your Timed Research to count toward the Pokémon GO Fest 2020 unlock goals.
Team GO Rocket Take-Over
That’s not all that’s happening during this exciting week! From Friday, July 10, 2020, at 8:00 a.m. to Wednesday, July 15, 2020, at 10:00 p.m. local time, there will also be heightened activity from the nefarious Team GO Rocket. Poison- and Dark-type Pokémon will show up more frequently in the wild, hatch more often from Eggs, and appear more frequently in raids. There will be more Team GO Rocket balloons appearing on the map, an increased chance of encountering Jessie and James, and more species of Shadow Pokémon to rescue.
Team GO Rocket’s interference will peak on Sunday, July 12, 2020, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. local time. During this time, look out for more Team GO Rocket balloons—plus, more Team GO Rocket Grunts will appear at PokéStops. Luckily, you can earn twice the usual amount of Stardust by battling Team GO Rocket while this take-over occurs. Not only that, but the chances of encountering Jessie and James will be even greater.
During that three-hour window on July 12, you will be able to use a Charged TM to have your Pokémon forget the attack Frustration and learn a new attack.
There’s a lot to do during this second weekly challenge. Check back later to see what’s in store for the final week before Pokémon GO Fest 2020!
