Dusk Mane Necrozma and Dawn Wings Necrozma Return for Pokémon GO’s Necrozma Fusion Raid Day

Shoot for the moon or have your day in the sun with these incredibly powerful Pokémon.

Since their debuts during Pokémon GO Fest 2024, Dawn Wings Necrozma and Dusk Mane Necrozma have emerged as true powerhouses in raids and the GO Battle League’s Master League—and now you’ll have another chance to add them to your lineup! Pokémon GO Necrozma Fusion Raid Day takes place on December 14, 2024, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. local time and will be a perfect opportunity to earn Necrozma Candy—and since there will be an increased chance of encountering Shiny Necrozma in raids, you just might get extra lucky! To make it easier to participate in as many raids as possible, during the event Trainers can receive up to five additional free Raid Passes from spinning Gym Photo Discs, for a daily maximum of seven. The Remote Raid Pass limit will also increase to 20 between December 13 at 5:00 p.m. and December 14, 2024, at 8:00 p.m. PST.

Trainers interested in getting more out of Necrozma Fusion Raid Day can purchase an event ticket for US$5.00 (or the equivalent pricing tier in your local currency) available in the in-game shop until December 14, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. local time. The event ticket grants the following bonuses.

  • Eight additional Raid Passes from spinning Gym Photo Discs for a daily total of 15

  • Increased chance of obtaining Rare Candy XL from Raid Battles

  • 50% more XP from Raid Battles

  • 2× Stardust from Raid Battles

A Quick Guide to Fusion in Pokémon GO

After a successful Dawn Wings Necrozma or Dusk Mane Necrozma raid, the Pokémon will revert to Necrozma before it can be caught. Necrozma caught from these raids can fuse with either Solgaleo or Lunala using 30 Necrozma Candy, 30 Cosmog Candy, and 1,000 Solar Fusion Energy or Lunar Fusion Energy to obtain Dusk Mane Necrozma or Dawn Wings Necrozma, respectively. Trainers can earn Solar Fusion Energy by defeating Dusk Mane Necrozma and Lunar Fusion Energy by defeating Dawn Wings Necrozma in raids, in addition to Necrozma Candy.

These fused Pokémon can be separated again, which costs no additional Fusion Energy or Candy. Note that while Necrozma is a Psychic-type Pokémon, Dusk Mane Necrozma is Psychic- and Steel-type and Dawn Wings Necrozma is Psychic- and Ghost-type.

Adventure Effects

Both Dusk Mane Necrozma and Dawn Wings Necrozma know unique attacks that can be activated outside of battle using 3,000 Stardust and three Necrozma Candy to grant special Adventure Effects. Dusk Mane Necrozma knows the Steel-type Charged Attack Sunsteel Strike. While active, Sunsteel Strike’s Adventure Effect causes Pokémon that typically appear during daytime to be drawn to the Trainer’s location for 10 minutes at night (this duration can be extended by using additional Stardust and Necrozma Candy). Pokémon that can only evolve during the daytime will be able to evolve at nighttime while this Adventure Effect is active. Some Pokémon that can potentially be encountered at night while using this Adventure Effect include Pidgey, Alolan Exeggutor, Solrock, Cottonee, Helioptile, Tyrunt, Yungoos, Rockruff, and Fomantis.

Dawn Wings Necrozma knows the Ghost-type Charged Attack Moongeist Beam. While active, Moongeist Beam’s Adventure Effect makes it so that Pokémon that typically appear during nighttime will be attracted to the Trainer’s location for 10 minutes during the day (this duration can be extended by using additional Stardust and Necrozma Candy). Pokémon that can only evolve at night will be able to evolve during the day while this Adventure Effect is active. Some Pokémon that can appear during the day while using this Adventure Effect include Alolan Rattata, Clefairy, Hoothoot, Galarian Zigzagoon, Lunatone, Munna, Amaura, and Rockruff.

How Strong Are We Talking?

It’s easy to throw around a word like “powerhouse” while talking about strong Pokémon, but when it comes to Dusk Mane Necrozma and Dawn Wings Necrozma in Pokémon GO, it’s no exaggeration. Both Pokémon are considered top-tier attackers in Raid Battles. Dawn Wings Necrozma reigns as the strongest Ghost-type attacker in Pokémon GO, thanks largely to its signature Charged Attack Moongeist Beam. Dawn Wings Necrozma is just as much of a beast in the Master League as it is in raids. It performs best when your opponent’s Protect Shields are down, thanks again to Moongeist Beam. While it’s important for it to keep some distance from Dark- and Ghost-type Pokémon, it has more than enough versatility to justify adding it to your team.

Dusk Mane Necrozma is also an incredible asset in raids where it has established itself as one of—if not the—most powerful Steel-type attackers in the game. As with Dawn Wings Necrozma, what distinguishes Dusk Mane Necrozma is its signature attack, Sunsteel Strike. Given that it can also use a Psychic-type Fast Attack and Charged Attack, it’s capable of serving in the role of Psychic-type attacker as well. It’s equally useful in the Master League where its broad range of attacks and Sunsteel Strike set it apart from other prominent Master League Steel-type Pokémon. In short, both Pokémon are well worth the investment of Raid Passes, Stardust, and Candy to catch, power up, and teach a second attack for battle.
