Get Cooking with Arven & Mabosstiff in Pokémon Masters EX

Arven makes his Pasio debut alongside Mabosstiff as a support sync pair that specializes in taking damage.

Arven & Mabosstiff are a Dark-type support sync pair ready to spice up the battlefield with a couple of thematically appropriate passive skills that interact with their Trainer move, Sitrus Berry. Their passive skill Trusty Arven’s Chockablock Cheer is a bit of a mouthful, but it’ll all make sense once you have some time to chew on it.

When Arven & Mabosstiff’s HP is reduced to 50 percent or lower by an attack move or sync move, Trusty Arven’s Chockablock Cheer will reduce Sitrus Berry’s MP by one (its maximum MP is three) and restore the HP of all allied sync pairs by 30 percent, as well as Arven & Mabosstiff’s HP by an additional 20 percent. That’s not all—once every Sitrus Berry has been snacked on and there’s zero MP remaining, Arven & Mabosstiff will take reduced damage from attack moves thanks to their passive skill Herba Mystica Effects.

This duo isn’t all about culinary skills and healing their allies; they can put in plenty of work with their buddy move, Bounce Back Jaw Lock. This move never misses and applies the Restrain effect to the target and themselves, and it has additional effects based on remaining Sitrus Berry MP. If Sitrus Berry’s MP is one or more, its MP will be reduced by one and Bounce Back Jaw Lock will increase the Physical Moves ↑ Next effect of all allied sync pairs by two ranks. If Sitrus Berry’s MP is zero, Bounce Back Jaw Lock will restore Arven & Mabosstiff’s HP by 10%, making the duo especially tenacious in battle.

For more details on this sync pair’s passive skills and moves, check out Arven & Mabosstiff’s in-game sync pair scout screen. Arven & Mabosstiff will be available to scout from their Poké Fair Scout from August 9, 2024, at 11:00 p.m. PDT to August 27, 2024, at 10:59 p.m. PDT.

Recommended Sync Pairs to Partner with Arven & Mabosstiff

Zinnia & Rayquaza

Ordinarily, Zinnia & Rayquaza must lower their Defense and Sp. Def to raise their Attack stat with their Trainer move Stellar Imagination! It’s usually worth the debuff, but Arven & Mabosstiff can easily raise Zinnia & Rayquaza’s Attack and Defense stats—as well as their critical-hit rate—by two stat ranks with each use of their Trainer move Here You Go! This not only makes it easier to help Zinnia & Rayquaza reach their maximum damage potential with Aerial Ace (and eventually Dragon Ascent once they Mega Evolve) but ensures that they won’t be extra frail by the time they’re powered up.

Zinnia & Rayquaza can be obtained by completing The Dragon That Rules the Sky in the Legendary Adventures section of the main story.

The Masked Royal & Incineroar

The Masked Royal & Incineroar are another potentially strong sync pair to include alongside Arven & Mabosstiff. The Masked Royal & Incineroar can easily raise their own Attack stat but are unable to raise their critical-hit rate without the help of another sync pair. Arven & Mabosstiff easily fulfill this need with their Trainer move Here You Go! and make it so that the Masked Royal & Incineroar can deal plenty of damage with Darkest Lariat and Heel Turn Malicious Moonsault. The Masked Royal & Incineroar can also lower their opponents’ offensive stats with their passive skill Dishearten 9, making Arven & Mabosstiff even more effective when taking attack damage.

The Masked Royal & Incineroar are available to scout from the general pool of 5★-sync pairs as well as the 5★-Guaranteed Alola Ticket Scout.
