Lillie’s Pearl + Lillie’s Clefairy ex

A key theme in this expansion is the enhanced power of working together. Lillie’s Pearl and Lillie’s Clefairy ex are strong evidence of this. First, we have Lillie’s Clefairy ex, a fairy awesome powerhouse with an incredible 190 HP and the capacity to Knock Out most Pokémon, including Pokémon ex. Best of all, Lillie’s Clefairy ex is a Basic Pokémon that requires just 2 Energy to access its Full Moon Rondo attack, which does anywhere from 20 damage to 220 damage depending on how many Benched Pokémon each player has. But like all Pokémon ex, using Lillie’s Clefairy ex comes with a risk: If it’s Knocked Out, your opponent gets to claim 2 Prize cards, which can bring them dangerously close to victory.

This is where Lillie’s Pearl comes in handy. This Pokémon Tool card serves one very specific but very useful purpose: when it is attached to one of Lillie’s Pokémon, your opponent gets one fewer Prize card if they Knock Out that Pokémon. It’s an incredible opportunity for fans of Pokémon ex to harness their immense strength without having to accept the loss of a second Prize card.

Lillie’s Ribombee

We’ve already seen that Lillie’s Clefairy ex does damage based on the number of Benched Pokémon. But what if your opponent doesn’t have very many? The adorable Lillie’s Ribombee is here to save the day with an Ability that has the potential to pack your opponent’s Bench: Inviting Wink! Play Lillie’s Ribombee to evolve one of your Pokémon during your turn, and Inviting Wink can make your opponent reveal their hand. You can then put any number of Basic Pokémon you find there onto their Bench, which sets the stage for Lillie’s Clefairy ex’s Full Moon Rondo to decimate your opponent’s Active Pokémon.

The fact that Lillie’s Ribombee is a cutie makes its penchant for dragging Basic Pokémon onto the Bench to power up Lillie’s Clefairy ex all the more diabolical. Illustrated by mashu, Ribombee is an adorable Pokémon hovering above a field of flowers. Its cheerful appearance, accented by Lillie’s smiling face peeking out from the corner of the illustration, is the perfect counterpoint to its strategic purpose.

Salamence ex

Illustrator Tsuyoshi Nagano captures the majesty and ferocity of Dragon-type Pokémon with his stunning Salamence ex. Captured mid-flight and spitting fire, Salamence ex’s bold physical presence is almost incongruous with the sunset and majestic mountains behind it. But there’s more to this Salamence ex card than its beauty: the Dragon Pokémon has an incredible 320 HP—well worth the work of finding and evolving this Stage 2 Pokémon—and two high-damage attacks to boot.

Salamence ex’s Wide Blast attack, which requires 1 Fire and 2 Colorless Energy to unleash, hits all of an opponent’s Benched Pokémon and does 50 damage to each one. Then there’s Salamence ex’s Dragon Impact, which requires more Energy (1 Water, 1 Fire, and 2 Colorless) but does an incredible 300 damage—enough to Knock Out most opponents. Afterward, you must discard 2 Energy from the Pokémon, but you can feel good knowing you almost certainly earned a Prize card with that single attack.

Wailord

There’s no denying that Wailord is a tank, an absolute unit, a heckin’ chonk of a Pokémon. Artist Takeshi Nakamura captures Wailord’s imposing majesty with a Pokémon that takes up so much of the frame that there’s very little space left for sky or sea. Obviously, it’s going to take a great deal of effort to Knock Out a Pokémon with such a strong physical presence, as suggested by Wailord’s impressive 240 HP. But Wailord’s not content to tank massive quantities of damage: it’s prepared to do significant damage as well. Its only attack—Hydro Pump—does 10 damage plus 50 additional damage for each Water Energy attached to Wailord. Given that Hydro Pump requires 4 Energy to use, if each Energy is Water, that’s a minimum of 210 damage, with the possibility of even more. This means that this Stage 1 Pokémon has the capacity to Knock Out Pokémon ex with a single attack. And unlike many powerful attacks that require you to discard Energy after use, Wailord gets to keep all its Energy and continue whaling out massive damage.

Magearna

In a thoughtfully constructed deck, some Pokémon—like Lillie’s Clefairy ex and Salamence ex—are meant to bring down the hammer, ruthlessly Knocking Out opponents. Others—like Magearna—serve a more complex purpose. Magearna’s Auto Heal Ability helps to keep your team in fighting shape—whenever you attach Energy from your hand to any of your Pokémon, this Ability heals 90 damage from that Pokémon, as long as Magearna is in the Active Spot. That’s an immense amount of healing, especially when you consider that Supporter cards that provide healing can only be used once before being discarded.

But Magearna serves another vital role as well: helping you get the cards you need into your hand. Magearna’s one and only attack, Spike Draw, requires 1 Energy to use and does 20 damage. In the grand scheme of things, that might not seem like much, but it also allows you to draw two cards. This means that in a single turn, Magearna can heal 90 damage from one of your Pokémon, do 20 damage, and allow you to draw two cards, which kind of makes it the Swiss Army knife of Pokémon.

These are just a few of the incredible cards you'll find in the Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet—Journey Together expansion. Discover other cool cards when the expansion releases on March 28, 2025.
