Pikachu and Friends Spark Joy during Tera Raid Battles and Mass Outbreaks

The first part of a season-long, four-part event in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet begins with a lot of shocking battles.

A season full of fun awaits you in the Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet games with a series of special Tera Raid Battles and mass outbreaks occurring from Friday, 12 July 2024, at 00:00 UTC to Sunday, 1 September 2024, at 23:59 UTC. During this four-part event, you’ll be able to challenge Tera Pokémon with the Mightiest Mark, encounter Pokémon that don’t normally appear during regular gameplay, and enjoy mass outbreaks where Pokémon that are Shiny or have special marks are more likely to appear.

The event kicks off with a celebration of Pikachu and friends, which takes place from Friday, 12 July 2024, at 00:00 UTC to Thursday, 25 July 2024, at 23:59 UTC. During this time, you’ll find Pikachu in Tera Raid Battles along with mass outbreaks of Pikachu, Raichu, Alolan Raichu, Pichu, and Mimikyu. Read on for more details about this and future events.

Part 1: Search for Pikachu and Friends! Tera Raid Battles

As this season-long event begins, Pikachu with the Mightiest Mark returns to black Tera Raid crystals. The Pikachu appearing during this event has Water as its Tera Type. Be prepared—this Pokémon is a formidable foe, and it’s got the Mightiest Mark to prove it! Work together with your friends to topple this powerful Tera Pokémon!

Whenever you see a sparkling pillar of light shining from a Tera Raid crystal, you can walk up to the crystal and interact with it to start a Tera Raid Battle with a Tera Pokémon. To find the Tera Pokémon featured in this event, you’ll also need to have downloaded the latest Poké Portal News. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Select Poké Portal in the X menu.

  2. Select Mystery Gift.

  3. Select Check Poké Portal News.

To challenge Water–Tera Type Pikachu with the Mightiest Mark, Trainers will need to either complete the postgame events that follow the main story or join a 7-star Tera Raid Battle hosted by a Trainer who has completed those events. This special Pikachu can be caught only once per save data. You can still participate in Tera Raid Battles against this Pikachu if you’ve already caught it to obtain other rewards—including significant amounts of Exp. Candy for leveling up your Pokémon, treasures that can be sold at Pokémon Centers, items for improving your Pokémon’s stats, and Water Tera Shards for changing your Pokémon’s Tera Type.

Part 1: Search for Pikachu and Friends! Mass Outbreaks

You’ll be shocked at how many Pokémon you encounter during this event’s mass outbreaks. Look for Pikachu and friends in the following locations:

  • Paldea – Pichu

  • Kitakami – Pikachu and Mimikyu

  • Blueberry Academy – Raichu and Alolan Raichu

Alolan Raichu cannot normally be encountered during regular gameplay, and Shiny Pokémon are more likely to appear during these special mass outbreaks, so don’t miss your chance to find one.

Mass outbreaks are a phenomenon in which many of the same species of Pokémon appear in one location. To participate in mass outbreak events, you will need to download the latest Poké Portal News, as explained above, and install the latest update data for your game.
