A new year means new events, which includes the Pokémon GO New Year’s 2025 event featuring fireworks, costumed Pokémon, raids, research, and more. From December 30, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. to January 1, 2025, at 8:00 p.m. local time, colorful fireworks will light up the in-game skies and Trainers will receive 2,025 XP for catching Pokémon with Excellent Throws. Wild Pokémon are dressing to impress, so take this chance to encounter Jigglypuff wearing a ribbon, Hoothoot wearing a New Year’s outfit, and Wurmple wearing a party hat.

New Year, New Research
If your New Year’s resolution is to complete more research in Pokémon GO, it’s your lucky day! The Pokémon GO New Year’s 2025 event boasts Field Research, Timed Research, and paid Timed Research. Trainers that complete event Field Research tasks can earn encounters with event-themed Pokémon. Take on Timed Research to earn Stardust and event-themed Pokémon. Paid Timed Research is available for US$2.00 (or the equivalent pricing tier in your local currency). Trainers who complete this research before it expires on January 1, 2025, at 8:00 p.m. local time can earn three Premium Battle Passes, three Lucky Eggs, 2,025 Stardust, and event-themed Pokémon encounters including Pikachu wearing a snowflake beanie, Raticate wearing a party hat, Wobbuffet wearing a party hat, and more.
