Ring In Spring with the Grass-Type Meowscarada ex

Smell the flowers and embrace the season with Meowscarada ex in the Pokémon TCG.

Are you looking for a new Grass-type deck to really kick off spring? Do you absolutely adore Sprigatito and its Evolutions (not to mention the amazing illustration rare artwork of these Pokémon)? Learn more about Meowscarada ex and try building a deck of your own—we’ll share a couple of card tips along the way. There are plenty of Sprigatito, Floragato, and Meowscarada-related products (including adorable plush) available this spring at Pokémon Center, so now is the time to fall in love with this Evolution chain!

Meowscarada Magic

Meowscarada ex’s primary strength is peppering damage across different Pokémon with its Bouquet Magic Ability, but you can also claw away at your Prize cards by taking Knock Outs with Scratching Nails. You’ll always have to start with Sprigatito, but ultimately, you can build up the deck in any way you like.

Meowscarada ex’s Bouquet Magic Ability is the star of this Magician Pokémon’s show—it puts 3 damage counters on one of your opponent’s Benched Pokémon when you discard a Basic Grass Energy card from your hand. You can use the Bouquet Magic Ability from multiple Meowscarada ex each turn, so it’s crucial to get as many into play as possible to really ramp up your damage.

Whether you want to use this Ability or attach an Energy for Scratching Nails, having the necessary Energy in your hand can be a challenge. However, Earthen Vessel makes it easy to search your deck for Basic Grass Energy at a moment’s notice, and Superior Energy Retrieval can also provide additional support by recovering Basic Grass Energy from your discard pile.

Meowscarada ex’s Ability is powerful, but this Pokémon also has claws. Its Scratching Nails attack does 100 damage for two Colorless Energy, plus 120 more damage when the opponent’s Active Pokémon is already damaged. As long as you have plenty of Meowscarada ex in play (and Basic Grass Energy in hand), Scratching Nails will almost always cut the opponent down to size.

Supporting Meowscarada ex

To power up Meowscarada ex’s attack, there are two primary methods: attaching Basic Grass Energy with Gardenia’s Vigor, or attaching a Double Turbo Energy. You’ll often have Basic Grass Energy in hand, so Gardenia’s Vigor has strong synergy with the deck, but you might want to play a different Supporter card on some turns. For example, attaching Double Turbo Energy makes it possible to play Boss’s Orders in the same turn. A combination of the two methods is likely ideal, but play around and see what fits your style!

No Pokémon TCG deck is complete without some support Pokémon, though. Toedscool is hanging out near the illustration rare trio of Sprigatito, Floragato, and Meowscarada ex—and for good reason. Its Evolution, Toedscruel ex, provides additional support through its Protective Mycelium Ability. This Ability prevents all effects of attacks used by your opponent’s Pokémon done to all of your Pokémon that have Energy attached.

This means you can protect Meowscarada ex by preventing Special Conditions, forced retreat, an instant Knock Out, or sneaky damage counters. Toedscruel ex can even help out with damage of its own using its Colony Rush attack—and if you can save that maneuver for when your Bench is powered up, it delivers quite a punch!
