Varoom Debuts and Shadow Kyogre Makes a Splash in Pokémon GO’s Taken Treasures Event

A new Team GO Rocket takeover features Shadow Pokémon galore.

Team GO Rocket is at it again, unleashing a plethora of powerful Shadow Pokémon—including Shadow Kyogre and Shadow Ho-Oh! The Pokémon GO Taken Treasures event runs January 27, 2024, at 12:00 a.m. to February 1, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. local time. During this time, Varoom is wheeling into the spotlight for the first time in Pokémon GO. Also, Team GO Rocket will appear more frequently at PokéStops and in balloons, and Trainers can use a Charged TM to help Shadow Pokémon forget the Charged Attack Frustration. These windows of opportunity are few and far between, so take advantage of this rare chance to teach your Shadow Pokémon a different Charged Attack.

Adding to the drama, Giovanni returns, now battling with an immensely powerful Shadow Kyogre at his side. Trainers that complete the final phase of the Seasonal Special Research story will receive a Super Rocket Radar to chase down Giovanni and battle Shadow Kyogre. The Seasonal Special Research story must be claimed by March 1, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. local time.

Taken Treasures is rife with Shadow Pokémon. Team GO Rocket Grunts will be using Shadow Corphish, Shadow Snorunt, Shadow Chimchar, Shadow Piplup, Shadow Croagunk, Shadow Dwebble, and Shadow Ferroseed. Team GO Rocket leaders Sierra, Cliff, and Arlo will be battling with a new lineup of Shadow Pokémon as well. And get your battle teams ready, because the following Shadow Raid Bosses will appear at Gyms under Team GO Rocket control.

  • One-Star Raids

    • Alolan Sandshrew

    • Murkrow

    • Pineco

    • Croagunk

  • Three-Star Raids

    • Scyther

    • Skarmory

    • Golett

  • Five-Star

    • Ho-Oh
