In Ryme City, humans and Pokémon live side-by-side in harmony. When trouble arises in this bustling burg, though, there’s no need to fear—the city is home to a Pikachu that considers himself to be a great detective. In the Detective Pikachu Returns game for the Nintendo Switch system, the titular Pokémon and his partner, a young man named Tim Goodman, are on the case. Together, they’ll investigate the mysterious incidents that occur throughout the city and hopefully achieve their ultimate goal: discovering what happened to Tim’s missing father.

Detective Pikachu is unlike other Pikachu you may have encountered in the past. This little fellow is a gruff, tough-talking (but still surprisingly lovable) Pokémon who has an affinity for coffee. Wait...tough-talking? Yes! Strangely enough, Tim can understand this Pikachu, making them the perfect team to tackle this adventure. As you move about the city, Tim will chat with the residents to gather clues while Pikachu communicates with the city’s many Pokémon inhabitants. Collect enough evidence, and you just might be able to solve the case.

Along the way, Pikachu will be able to convince some Pokémon to assist in the investigation. Different Pokémon have unique skills that will prove useful. Growlithe, for example, can sniff out clues with her sensitive snout, while Galarian Darmanitan packs a powerful punch for when you need to use a bit of force. Other Pokémon may be willing to help out as well, so be sure to have Pikachu talk to everyone!
