2024 Pokémon World Championships Closing Ceremony Recap

We’ve reached the end of the 2024 Pokémon World Championships, but before we bid aloha to Honolulu, Mr. Tsunekazu Ishihara, the President & CEO of The Pokémon Company, discussed some exciting new information during the event’s closing ceremonies. In addition to news about the Pokémon Trading Card Game, he shared updates about Pokémon GO, Pokémon UNITE, and Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket. As one final surprise, Mr. Ishihara also revealed the dates and locations for not just the 2025 Pokémon World Championships but also the 2026 event.

Hopefully you have a full belly when you head out for a session of Pokémon GO. You certainly wouldn’t want to find yourself getting hangry as you play—after all, there’s gonna be enough of that when Morpeko arrives in the game! The Two-Sided Pokémon is indeed coming, and it will be able to use a unique Charged Attack to change form during battle. Three new Pokémon are gearing up to enter the fray in Pokémon UNITE. Get ready for the arrival of Armarouge, Darkrai, and Psyduck. More information about this trio will be revealed at a future date.

In addition to showing a new trailer for the upcoming Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket (along with a tease for the immersive Mewtwo card), the release date for the game was revealed. Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket arrives on October 30, 2024, and you can preregister for it now on the App Store and Google Play.

A nostalgic gameplay mechanic is returning to the Pokémon TCG—Trainer’s Pokémon cards highlight the bond between a Trainer and their Pokémon, and you can look forward to seeing what their arrival brings to the game in 2025.

Finally, we learned the dates and locations for the next two years of Pokémon World Championships. Next year, the competition moves to Anaheim, California, from August 15 to 17, 2025. The following year, the event will be held in San Francisco, California, from August 28 to 30, 2026.
