Eternatus, Durant ex, Drayton, and more in Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet—Surging Sparks

Get a sneak peek at some of the awesome new cards that can be found in the upcoming expansion.

We’ve already taken an early look at a few of the new cards you’ll be able to find in the upcoming Pokémon Trading Card Game expansion, Scarlet & Violet—Surging Sparks, but we wanted to share some more. This new expansion brings Pikachu ex into the game as a Stellar Tera Pokémon ex along with a lineup of dragon Pokémon, including Alolan Exeggutor ex. Of course, there will also be new ACE SPEC cards and more new Tera Pokémon ex to discover as well. Check out these cards for a small jolt of what you can expect when the expansion arrives on November 8, 2024.

Durant ex

If you find yourself falling behind in a match, Durant ex is ready to lunge into battle for a late-game boost. This Pokémon ex’s Sudden Shearing Ability lets you discard the top card of your opponent’s deck when you play it from your hand onto your Bench—hopefully you’ll take a useful card out of play. It’s Durant ex’s Vengeful Crush attack, though, that makes this card more valuable near the end of a match. The attack does 120 damage on its own, but it adds 30 more damage for each Prize card your opponent has taken. If used when your opponent has only one Prize card left, this attack will do an impressive 270 damage!

Eternatus

One interesting thing to note about this Eternatus is that it marks the Legendary Pokémon’s first appearance in the Pokémon TCG as a card that doesn’t have a Rule Box. Now you can bring this fearsome-looking Pokémon into battle without worrying about only having one in your deck or your opponent claiming multiple Prize cards if it gets Knocked Out. However, you’ll still want to be careful when you play this card for it to be truly effective. Its Dyna-Blast attack is only really useful against Pokémon ex, but even then, it only hits for 90 damage. Eternatus’s World Ender—which does an impressive 230 damage—is the star of the show here, but you can only use it after discarding a Stadium in play. Make sure you have some on hand if you want to pull off this powerful attack.

Miracle Headset

Does your game strategy rely heavily on having a specific Supporter card in a pinch or looping a particular effect? If so, you might want to have the ACE SPEC card Miracle Headset in your deck. Play this Item card to reclaim up to two Supporter cards from your discard pile and get them back into action. Just remember that you can only have one ACE SPEC card in your deck, so choose wisely.

Appletun

It’s appropriate that Appletun’s first attack is called Melting Sweetness because this sweet little Pokémon is melting our hearts on this illustration rare card. Just check out that infectious smile! It must feel right at home amid those bushels of apples. That particular attack may not be very powerful—it only does 50 damage—but it can disrupt your opponent’s strategy. After a hit from Melting Sweetness, the Defending Pokémon can’t attack during your opponent’s next turn, so they’ll need to think fast if they want to retaliate. Appletun’s Wild Tackle packs a more powerful punch (130 damage), but be aware that it also does 20 damage to Appletun.

Drayton

Drayton may have a reputation around Blueberry Academy as a bit of a slacker, but this chill dude is also a skilled Trainer and a faithful friend. It makes perfect sense for him to lend a hand on this Supporter card. He allows you to look at the top seven cards of your deck and select a Pokémon and a Trainer card from among them to put into your hand. It’s a great way to get the backup you need when you’re in trouble. Yeah, that Drayton’s a good guy.

These are just a few of the cards you’ll be able to find in the Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet—Surging Sparks expansion. Look forward to the other awesome cards you’ll uncover when the expansion releases on November 8, 2024.
