Run the Numbers with Thorton & Magnezone in Pokémon Masters EX

Get ready to curb the opposition with a field sync pair that grants bonuses against restrained targets.

Rowdy rental Pokémon are disobeying their Trainers, and Sawyer is at his wit’s end. Thankfully, there are two Trainers on Pasio who are well acquainted with rental Pokémon: Noland and Thorton. These two Factory Heads have seen it all and are up for the challenge. Find out how it all unfolds in Pokémon Masters EX’s newest story event, Trainer Files: Two Factory Heads!

Thorton & Magnezone

Thorton & Magnezone are a Steel-type field sync pair that can really put opponents in a bind. Their Factory Knowledge passive skill restrains a target after Thorton & Magnezone’s attack is successful against that opponent. This passive skill also powers up the moves of all allied sync pairs when they attack a restrained target. Getting opponents restrained is also key to activating Thorton & Magnezone’s Hit Restrained Opp: Free Move Next 9 and Hit Restrained Opp: Supereffective ↑ Next 9 passive skills.

Hit Restrained Opp: Free Move Next 9 applies the Free Move Next effect to Thorton & Magnezone whenever their attack is successful against a restrained opponent. Hit Restrained Opp: Supereffective ↑ Next 9 applies the Supereffective ↑ Next effect to Thorton & Magnezone whenever their attack is successful against a restrained opponent. Once Thorton & Magnezone have a target restrained, your team can land an easy win!

For more details on this sync pair’s passive skills and moves, check out Thorton & Magnezone’s in-game sync pair scout screen. Thorton & Magnezone are available to scout until October 18, 2023, at 10:59 p.m. PDT.

Recommended Sync Pairs to Partner with Thorton & Magnezone

  • Hau & Raichu
Thorton & Magnezone aren’t an Electric-type sync pair, but they’re sure to be a strong conductor for Hau & Raichu’s damage. Thorton & Magnezone’s Metal Sound is nothing fancy—it reduces the Sp. Def of their target by two stat ranks—but it quickly adds up after a couple of uses, increasing the effect of Hau & Raichu’s attacks. Combined with Factory Knowledge, Thorton & Magnezone have the potential to completely charge up Hau & Raichu’s Discharge and Endless Summer Gigavolt Havoc to do maximum damage. Hau & Raichu can obtained after completing Chapter 11 of the main story.

  • Sabrina & Alakazam
Thorton & Magnezone have a lot of utility as a field sync pair, but they also benefit from support sync pairs that focus on maximizing their team’s damage. Sabrina & Alakazam have two Trainer moves that help Thorton & Magnezone do just that—Dire Hit All and Sixth Sense! Dire Hit All raises the critical hit rate of all allied sync pairs by one stat rank, and Sixth Sense! restores an ally’s HP by 40% of their maximum HP, raises their Sp. Atk by three stat ranks, and ups their accuracy by one stat rank. After a couple uses of these two Trainer moves, Thorton & Magnezone will be ready to deal nearly full damage with Flash Cannon, Discharge, and One Hundred Percent Steel Beam. Sabrina & Alakazam are available to scout from the general pool of 5★ sync pairs, as well as from the 5★-Guaranteed Ticket Scout and the 5★-Guaranteed Kanto Ticket Scout.

Don’t let anything hold you back, Trainers!
