The camera app in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet allows you to capture your adventures in ways that are unique to the Pokémon core video game series. With the release of The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero Part 1: The Teal Mask, the addition of new emotes and helpful features have increased your artistic options, making it easier than ever to take photos with your favorite Pokémon. Whether you’re an amateur shutterbug or you’ve already completed your quest with Perrin—the phenom photographer visiting Mossui Town—check out our latest snapshots for some tips and tricks on how to give your pictures more pizzazz!

One new feature introduced by the latest update to Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet—but which doesn’t require The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero—is the ability to stop your lead Pokémon from moving around. Simply press the Left Stick while your lead Pokémon is out of its Poké Ball, and it will stay put until you press the Left Stick again or it returns to its ball. If you’ve got a rambunctious Rockruff or a Goomy with the zoomies, telling your partner to pump the brakes makes it easier than ever to set up that perfect shot!

Here’s another fun update that doesn’t require the DLC: while the camera app is open, you can press the ZL Button or ZR Button to cycle through background music! Whether you’re out exploring or hosting a picnic, the Pokémon you’ve let out of their Poké Balls will react to the different tunes in various ways. Use this nifty feature to take pictures of your Pokémon showing their excitement, striking an action pose, or settling into sleepy time!

To those of you who’ve chosen to embark on a school trip to the land of Kitakami, you’ll receive a Roto-Stick shortly after arriving in Mossui Town. This handy device extends the range of your photos when using your camera in selfie mode. This extra range can be used to squeeze more friends into frame or set up selfies with Pokémon that may have been difficult to photograph before.

Three new selfie emotes are available in The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero Part 1: the The Teal Mask: Eureka, Poké Ball, and Shhh! emotes. You can only use these emotes while you’ve got the camera app open in selfie mode.

You’ll be taught the Eureka emote right after receiving a Roto-Stick near the beginning of your Kitakami journey, but you’ll have to do a little more adventuring to learn the other two.

The Poké Ball emote is reminiscent of the I Choose You! pose emote but is instead used in selfie mode. You can learn this emote from Mossui Town’s Pokémon Center lady—located in front of the community center—after building a rapport with her by healing your party a few times. Remember that you’ll always hold up the ball containing the first Pokémon in your party.

The Shhh! emote is the last of the new selfie emotes and is a bit more mischievous than the other two. We’ve highlighted it here with a fun scene near Porto Marinada, where another Trainer has clearly been caught off guard by a winsome Whiscash. Learn this emote by speaking to a young boy near Kitakami Hall—if you can keep a secret!

The Teal Mask also introduces a handful of new emotes that can be used outside the camera app—ideal for coordinating fun group pictures. These poses include the Heart (Right), Heart (Left), Upside-Down Peace, Please!, Oh No!, and Hurray! emotes.

The Heart (Right) and Heart (Left) emotes are perfect for taking an adorable photo with someone you care about. You can learn them from a lovey-dovey couple found chatting behind Mossui’s community center. If you solve their riddle by showing them a Pokémon that’s paired as perfectly together as they are, you’ll gain access to both these poses for your next Union Circle photoshoot.

Once again, Mossui’s Pokémon Center lady will reward your dedication to keeping your team healthy by teaching you a stylish new pose. If you visit her to heal your Pokémon enough times, you’ll learn the Upside-Down Peace emote. The Trainer on the right is showing off this trendy pose near Cortondo’s giant olive ball.

The Trainer on the left is showcasing the Oh No! emote, which can be obtained by undergoing a quest that begins in Kitakami. To take your first steps on this road to riches, try wandering across the clifftop that overlooks the rice paddies near Kitakami Road—and look for a gilded duo that’s drolly delighted to meet you.

SCORE! The gigantic olive ball has been conquered! Was it one of the Trainers...or the Rowlet standing casually between them? Either way, the Trainer on the right is jumping for joy with the new Hurray! emote, which can be learned from your friendly neighborhood caretaker. The quest to learn this celebratory pose starts at Loyalty Plaza and becomes available after completing the story events of The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero Part 1: The Teal Mask—a fitting send-off to a school trip full of surprises.

Porto Marinada is known for its bustling marketplace, with eager auctioneers and savvy bidders lining the stalls. Here, the Trainer on the right is using the new Please! emote in hopes of bagging a better bargain. Judging by that thumbs-up from the Trainer on the left—and the contented look on Hisuian Typhlosion’s face—it looks like they’ve got a deal! This new emote can be learned from a young boy across from the Ogre Oustin’ stall at Kitakami Hall. Use it to harness the power of “weaponized cuteness” for yourself!
