Origin Forme Palkia Appearing in Raids: November 18, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to November 27, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. local time
Origin Forme Palkia Last Appeared in Raids: February 24–25, 2024
Origin Forme Palkia is a Water- and Dragon-type Legendary Pokémon originally discovered in the Hisui region. It soars across the sky in a form that greatly resembles the creator of all things. Help Origin Forme Palkia soar into your Pokédex by learning which Pokémon will be most effective in Raid Battles against it, how to catch one after winning a Raid Battle, and how best to use the Spatial Pokémon after you’ve caught it. While it shares the same type as Palkia, Origin Forme Palkia can learn Spacial Rend, a Charged Attack with an Adventure Effect that allows its Trainer to encounter wild Pokémon at greater distances. Also, Palkia and Origin Forme Palkia’s stats differ slightly, which may impact your strategy once you catch it.
Which Pokémon to Use in an Origin Forme Palkia Raid in Pokémon GO
As a Water- and Dragon-type Pokémon, Origin Forme Palkia is vulnerable to Dragon- and Fairy-type attacks. When choosing six Pokémon for your Origin Forme Palkia Raid Battle lineup, it helps to choose Pokémon that have a Fast Attack and a Charged Attack of one of those types if you want to deal as much damage as possible. It’s not necessary to choose only Dragon- or Fairy-type Pokémon, but a Pokémon that shares a type with these attacks will benefit from a same-type attack bonus, which will allow these attacks to deal an additional 20% damage.
If you have multiple Pokémon that know Dragon- or Fairy-type attacks, choose the Pokémon with the highest CP and best overall stats. Remember that speed of victory affects how many Premier Balls you will receive at the conclusion of a successful Raid Battle, so bring your strongest Pokémon and defeat Palkia as quickly as you can.
When you challenge a Raid Boss while you’re in a party, Party Power can give your Charged Attacks a boost. When you have more party members in a raid, your Party Power charges more quickly—when you activate it, your next Charged Attack will deal even more damage! To get the most out of Party Power, it’s a great idea to take on Raid Battles with friends.
It’s also worth noting that when you include a Mega-Evolved Pokémon in your raid lineup, all Pokémon of the same type participating in the raid receive a damage boost while that Mega-Evolved Pokémon is battling the Raid Boss. With their substantial CP, Mega-Evolved Pokémon are already a terrific asset in raids, but this added damage boost for other Trainers’ Pokémon can also be significant in Raid Battles where you’re up against the clock.

Make the Most of Premier Balls and Berries
After a successful Origin Forme Palkia raid, you’ll have a limited number of Premier Balls you can use to catch Palkia, so make each one count. You can earn extra Premier Balls by battling with friends and defeating Palkia more quickly.
In an encounter with Origin Forme Palkia, your chance of catching it is greatest when the target ring is small enough for you to score Excellent throws. Throwing Curveballs can improve your chances even more. But work within your abilities—if you don’t think you can reliably make Excellent Curveball Throws, aim for Nice Throws or Great Throws rather than risk missing the target ring completely.
Origin Forme Palkia isn’t going to make it easy on you by sitting still while you’re trying to catch it. Don’t waste your Premier Balls by throwing while it’s moving around. Watch Palkia to get a feel for its cycle of movement and the pauses in between the cycles. During one of these pauses, wait for the target ring to reappear, and then throw as it starts to shrink to increase your odds of making a Great Throw or an Excellent Throw.
Berries can help you catch Origin Forme Palkia. A Razz Berry will make Palkia easier to catch, and a Golden Razz Berry will make it much easier to catch. If you find yourself failing to land any throws, a Nanab Berry will calm Palkia, making its movements less erratic and allowing you to make precise throws more easily. If you need extra Palkia Candy, using a Silver Pinap Berry will make Palkia easier to catch and grant you extra Candy when you catch it.
Buddy Pokémon with a Buddy Level of Great Buddy or higher have the Catch Assist Perk. If a Pokémon—even a Legendary Pokémon—deflects a Poké Ball, your buddy might bounce it back for a second catch opportunity!
Like all Legendary Pokémon, Origin Forme Palkia is tricky to catch, so don’t be discouraged if it escapes. Get a second wind by stocking up on useful items—like Max Potions, Max Revives, and Golden Razz Berries—and try again.

*Spacial Rend cannot be learned using any TM.
As a Water- and Dragon-type Pokémon, Origin Forme Palkia is resistant to Fire-, Water-, and Steel-type attacks. Origine Forme Palkia has among the highest max CP in Pokémon GO, making it a solid Dragon- or Water-type attacker in raids against powerful Pokémon like Mega Charizard X, Mega Charizard Y, Dragonite, Salamence, Groudon, and Garchomp.
In terms of the GO Battle League, Origin Forme Palkia’s CP is too high for it to compete in the Great League, and it’s not considered very effective in the Ultra League. However, Origin Forme Palkia dominates the Master League where it can make use of its high max CP and unique ability to learn Spacial Rend. Origin Forme Palkia performs well against popular Master League Pokémon including Mewtwo, Giratina, Zygarde, and Dawn Wings Necrozma. Even neutral or outright disadvantageous matchups are difficult against Origin Forme Palkia, and defeating one will require extensive time and resources. If you put Origin Forme Palkia on your team it’s best to avoid tangling with Fairy-type Pokémon, but Fairy types are somewhat rare in Master League, so it’s entirely possible to build a team that accounts for Origin Forme Palkia’s vulnerability.
If you’re going to bring Origin Forme Palkia to the Master League, it’s important to teach it a second Charged Attack. Origin Forme Palkia can learn two Dragon-type Fast Attacks, but Dragon Breath is typically considered superior due to the attack’s timing. Origin Forme Palkia also has a good variety of Charged Attacks to choose from. Aqua Tail is a popular choice because it requires the least amount of energy and is quick to power up. Spacial Rend is another solid attack choice for Origin Forme Palkia. Both Aqua Tail and Spacial Rend benefit from a same-type attack bonus. But if you’re looking for a strong counter against prominent Steel-type Pokémon, Fire Blast could be a good choice for a Charged Attack.
As with any Pokémon competing in the Master League—where there is no CP cap—it’s important to power up Origin Forme Palkia as much as possible for it to be truly effective. This will require a lot of Palkia Candy, Palkia Candy XL, and Stardust, so try to catch as many Origin Forme Palkia as possible and make extensive use of Pinap Berries and Silver Pinap Berries to help you get there faster.
Good luck with your next Raid Battle, and remember to check Pokemon.com/strategy for more Pokémon GO, video game, and Pokémon TCG tips.
