Okidogi ex leads the way with its Poisonous Musculature attack, which attaches 2 Basic Darkness Energy to itself from your deck. But such power comes with a cost: attaching Energy in this way will make Okidogi ex Poisoned.

You can turn this drawback into a strength with its Chain-Crazed attack the following turn. The attack normally does 130 damage, but it will do an impressive 260 if Okidogi ex is Poisoned. You can also use Brute Bonnet as an alternative way to enable this boost in power—its Toxic Powder Ability can make both Active Pokémon Poisoned, yours and your opponent’s, as long as it has an Ancient Booster Energy Capsule attached.

Starting Deck

Initial Strategy

Since your deck is all about poison, Atticus can help you draw cards if your opponent’s Pokémon is afflicted with the Special Condition, while Binding Mochi can power up your attacks if your own Pokémon is Poisoned.

This deck also provides some extra ways to get Energy onto your Pokémon for added consistency throughout your game. Don’t be afraid to discard Basic Darkness Energy cards to Ultra Ball, Earthen Vessel, or Professor’s Research, as this will enable you to play Dark Patch—an Item card that can retrieve that Energy from your discard pile and attach it directly to one of your Benched Darkness Pokémon.

While Okidogi ex is the star of the show, don’t forget the other Loyal Three in the deck!

• Munkidori’s Adrena-Brain Ability moves three damage counters from one of your Pokémon to one of your opponent’s Pokémon.

• Fezandipiti’s Adrena-Pheromone Ability can prevent damage done to it with a flip of a coin while turning all Energy attached to it into damage with its Energy Feather attack.

• And Okidogi itself appears as a Pokémon with no Rule Box. Thanks to its Adrena-Power Ability, it can gain an additional 100 HP and do 170 damage with its Good Punch attack.

Note that all of these Pokémon need Darkness Energy attached to enable their Abilities, but don’t forget that Luminous Energy can also help fulfill these effect conditions while also powering up their attack costs.

Several other Pokémon, like Lumineon V, Squawkabilly ex, and Radiant Greninja, have been included in this deck due to the useful Abilities they offer. Lumineon V can find a Supporter card from your deck, Squawkabilly ex can draw you a new hand on your first turn, and Radiant Greninja can discard an Energy card from your hand to draw 2 cards. It’s worth noting that Lumineon V’s Ability only works when you play it from your hand, so try to avoid playing this card using an effect from a card like Nest Ball, which puts the Pokémon directly onto the Bench.

Many of these cards can be added to your deck to provide more power and flexibility. But to add cards, you’ll also need to remove cards. We’ve highlighted some cards in the “Starting Deck” list that you might consider swapping out for the new ones, but feel free to mix and match!

Upgraded Strategy

With the Loyal Three all becoming powerful Pokémon ex and Pecharunt ex joining the fray, your opponent won’t know what hit them!

Pecharunt ex’s Subjugating Chains Ability lets you move a Darkness-type Pokémon from your Bench (except any Pecharunt ex) into your Active Spot and make it Poisoned, which fits perfectly with the aims of this deck. This can get you out of tricky situations while enabling effects like Okidogi ex’s Chain-Crazed attack.

As for the other two Loyal Three, Munkidori ex can dish out some damage itself while denying the opponent a Prize card thanks to its Oh No You Don’t Ability, as long as Pecharunt ex is in play. And Fezandipiti ex can draw 3 cards if one of your Pokémon was Knocked Out during your opponent’s last turn, or it can take down a low-HP threat.

Finally, Janine’s Secret Art gives you another way to make your Pokémon Poisoned while accelerating Basic Darkness Energy from your deck.

Chain Gang

Make your way to Tier 50 to unlock another special illustration rare version of Okidogi ex! Swap it into your deck to make it even more exciting.

Tord Reklev took home the 2024 Europe International Championships with this consistent Charizard ex deck. Charizard ex’s Infernal Reign Ability can quickly power up your team with Fire Energy, so be sure to use it when you evolve.

Starting Deck

Initial Strategy

Focus on getting Pidgeot ex out, as its Quick Search Ability can find any card in your deck and add it to your hand! With this powerful Pokémon ex in play, you’ll be in a good position to get set up quickly or to find some of the many single-copy cards in this list. Even Pidgey has a useful Call for Family attack that can find two Basic Pokémon and put them onto your Bench.

You can also use Bibarel to make sure you have the resources you need. Its Industrious Incisors Ability will let you fill your hand until you have five cards—use this to recover from a late game Iono or Unfair Stamp, or play it in combination with cards that thin your hand like Ultra Ball or Lost Vacuum.

And don’t forget about all the Basic Pokémon in this deck. Jirachi and Manaphy can help shut down your opponent’s efforts to target your Benched Pokémon, making them a useful tech option (or an easy discard for cards like Ultra Ball if you know you won’t need their Abilities). Cleffa can attack for free with its Grasping Draw attack, letting you draw until you have seven cards in your hand. Best of all, these Basic Pokémon—as well as Charmander, Pidgey, and Bidoof—all have 70 HP or less, which means you can use Buddy-Buddy Poffin to search your deck and put two of them directly onto your Bench.

As for the bulkier Basic Pokémon in this deck, Radiant Charizard is not only useful in the late game with its Excited Heart Ability, but it can also be used earlier in the game with the help of Charizard ex’s Infernal Reign Ability. Rotom V can help draw you cards in the early rounds, but note that using its Instant Charge Ability will end your turn. And finally, Lumineon V can find a Supporter card, but as we noted in the Okidogi ex deck, this Ability can only be used if you played it from your hand, so don’t put it into play with Nest Ball!
